bugs

In this episode a man killed his wife and then wrapped her up in a blanket and ditched her body. The conviction of her husband depends on how long the body had been dead for, so Grissom tries to prove that she had been dead for 5 days by using bugs and linear regression. However, the arresting officer doesnt think that a jury will understand the bugs as valid evidence. Do you think his use of bugs is legit?

yeah, there is an actual division of science called entomology (the scientific study of insects). Being entomology is a real science it was valid for Grissom to show that the body had been dead for five days by determining how long it took for the bugs on the body to grow to the state in which they were found, even if the jury might not understand.
